Wiley Post's Lockheed Vega "Winnie Mae" Walkaround
Wiley Post and Harold Gatty beat the around-the-world record in 1931 in the Lockheed Vega NR105W, with a time of less than nine days. In 1933 Post made the world's first solo flight around the world, posting a new record time of 7 days, 19 hours. Post also made high-altitude test flights in the plane, experimenting with pressure suits. The plane is preserved at the National Air & Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center, where it was photographed by Ben Guenther. Click the thumbnails to select photos!
