After the 1976 air racing season Darryl Greenamyer retired his heavily modified Grumman F8F Bearcat #1 "American Jet" (N1111L), having won the Reno Unlimited races six times and set an absolute speed record for piston-powered aircraft. The plane is preserved at the National Air & Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center, where it was photographed by Ben Guenther. Click the thumbnails to select photos!
