Last year (2011) I finally started on my 1/32 Hasegawa P-51D Mustang. It had been in my stash for ages, even before it became an obsession for me to turn everything into a record breaker or an air racer ;)

Over the years I've collected some aftermarket sets:
  • Wheels - True details
  • Flaps - ???
  • Cockpit - Xtra Parts
  • Misc PE - Eduard

What settled it was when I found J Ruthman made Hamilton uncuffed propeller blades needed for most air race Mustangs (the only one I remember is the Galloping Ghost in the early years), in my case E.D. Weiner checkerd P-51D (1965 scheme)

To date I've added the following sets:
  • Hamilton uncuffed propeller - J Ruthman
  • Canopy - J Ruthman
  • Wheel Well- Aires
  • Decals - Red Pegasus
  • Cockpit Decals - Barracuda

All these goodies make the kit more expensive than the brand new Tamiya kit, which was announced just after I bought the propeller blades.

But it doesn't matter if you use the Hasegawa kit with all these sets or the Tamiya kit: there is still some conversion work to be done. Only with the Hasegawa kit you need to make more corrections and modifications.

There is hardly any part which hasn't been modified or replaced by aftermarket or scratchbuilt parts.

Update July 28th 2013: I've painted the cockpit and would have closed the fuselage but wantend to take pictures first

Hi Mark,

Is the F4U a racer (like the Lancer Two)?

We want you to start a build thread on here, Mark. Go for it.
I need to support the SIG a bit myself, we can't have Axel doing it all.
