1936 Caudron C.460, built by T.J. Suerdieck
Our members don't just built plastic models - this is T.J. Suerdieck's beautiful 1/4 scale radio control model of the 1936 Thompson Trophy winner. This fantastic creation was designed and built from Cleveland Air Lines plans for a small rubber powered model. Because of this there were no drawings of the control surfaces, so all the control surface airfoils as well as the wing itself were designed using Compufoil software. Here's some data:
Wingspan 66.5 inches, length 70 inches, weight 24 lbs.
Powerplant: O.S BGX-1, 2.1 cu.in. two-stroke, turning an 18 inch prop at 10,000 rpm. The exhaust stubs sticking out of the right engine bay, are not just for looks!
Pneumatically operated retractable landing gear and functional split flaps. Nine servos, five in the wing alone, controlled by the latest in Futaba Spread Spectrum Technology.
Sullivan Genesys onboard generator.
